More donut stuff? Well, yeah. Donuts are fun. And it’s especially fun sending one into space.
No, I didn’t go to the ISS for a photoshoot. Yes, I had some assistance from AI here.
As part of a promotional stunt for Donutology, we went where no man — er, donut — had gone before. Space. And it was every bit as wild a journey as you’d expect.
Using a weather balloon, we launched the donut (aptly named Sprinkles 1) from a small farm in rural Missouri and began the waiting game. About an hour into the flight, we lost GPS tracking. Assuming mission failure, our team was determined to wait it out.
Four hours later, we regained contact. To our surprise, the donut had landed in eastern Illinois — in a farm field, no less — a short jaunt from a neighboring penitentiary.
All told, the donut traveled more than 250 miles and reached an altitude of 97,000 feet — over 18 miles above the Earth.
